Teach, train, and coach to empower those who work with you. No matter whether these people are part of your immediate team, or they are your client, your success and growth depends on it.  You only succeed when others do.

Focus all of your efforts in creating and contributing to their success!

You do not need to be or become a certified trainer, teacher, instructor. Focus on what you can share. Skills, insight, knowledge, experience, and so on. 'Be' the Coach! Wait. I don't know how? We all know how.

Think about one activity that you absolutely love, that one thing that you can talk about passionately and without thinking. It may be your favorite hobby, activity, or a particular subject that you love. Take a moment. You only need a moment, because that one thing that you love so much, should be easy to identify and vocalize without having to think about. Got it? Now, you have an opportunity to teach and coach a person in front of you how to master or engage with that same thing. When something is that much of a part of us, it becomes effortless for us to share it with people around us.

To me, coaching is being able to offer instruction, guidance, leadership, inspiration, accountability, as well as empowermentWhen you approach each of your clients, customers, patients, organizations, (or, employees) with a sense of empowerment, you have a greater capacity to impact them. Subsequently, they have a larger capacity to impact others, and so on. Your impact in the world is only as good as the impact you have on the person, or people in front of you.

As a doctor, I have had an opportunity and a great privilege to work with a lot of people with chronic health issues. The vast majority of people are looking to be heard and listened to, supported, encouraged, and 'coached' along their own process and journey to health. Wait. What? I thought you are sick, you see a doctor, they find out what's wrong, you get a pill, get better. Yes, that has been the approach...and? Now, we get to see a nice rise and an upward trajectory of the chronic disease. If every doctor, or healthcare provider focused more on becoming a 'health coach', the world would be a healthier place. This approach would impact both the health of the doctors and the people who are seeking the help. The reason the doctor would also improve their health is because you cannot 'coach' others well, unless you practice what you preach. Well...you can, but this is hypocritical...you get the point.

In business, I have learned, that it is not that dissimilar. Your own success depends on whether you practice what you preach. Let me explain with an example. When you are advising groups, organizations, businesses, and so on, on ways that they can improve their operational systems, it is absolutely vital that your own systems are in place. In other words, it is a lot more challenging on coaching others when your own system of operation is a pile of papers on top of a dusty desk. You get the point...

Once again, your success is only as good when you help others succeed.
